About DART Rate Calculator (Formula)

A DART (Days Away, Restricted, or Transferred) Rate Calculator is a tool used to assess workplace safety performance by measuring the number of days that employees are away from work, on restricted duty, or transferred to a different job due to work-related injuries or illnesses. The formula for calculating the DART rate is as follows:

DART Rate = (Number of Days Away + Number of Restricted Duty Days + Number of Job Transfer Days) x 200,000 / Total Hours Worked

Where:

  • Number of Days Away represents the total number of days employees were away from work due to work-related injuries or illnesses.
  • Number of Restricted Duty Days is the total number of days employees were assigned to restricted work activities because of work-related injuries or illnesses.
  • Number of Job Transfer Days refers to the total number of days employees were transferred to different job roles due to work-related injuries or illnesses.
  • Total Hours Worked represents the cumulative number of hours worked by all employees during a specific period, typically per 100 full-time employees over a year.

The resulting DART rate is an important metric used in occupational safety and health management to evaluate workplace safety performance. It provides insights into the frequency and severity of work-related injuries and illnesses, helping organizations identify areas for improvement and implement preventive measures to enhance employee safety and well-being.
